Danecki Gives Morpeth Festive Cheer
Morpeth do the double over Uni 2s
The Longhirst based outfit made the short journey to Coach Lane in order to face Newcastle University 2nd team. With both sides looking to occupy the 4th spot in the league over the Christmas break this was always going to be a competitive fixture. The last time these two sides met it was a tight affair with Morpeth running out 2-1 winners and this time was to be no different.
The away side started the match slowly and had to withstand some heavy pressure with Sam Read producing some spells of brilliance in the Morpeth goal to keep the students at bay. The boys in green and gold however soon grew in confidence with the midfield of Ritchie Brown, David Breakey and Bruce McPate taking control of the game. The Northumbrians began to create some outstanding chances from Jack Tordoff creating good space and getting into some dangerous positions with fantastic movement. It was such movement that led to Luke Hudson who had been so strong and composed in possession of the ball, playing in Paul Danecki who in turn produced arguably the save of the game from the Newcastle goalkeeper.
The half time whistle was blown with the game still in deadlock.
It wasn't long into the second half before Ross Valentine single handed, eliminated the goal keeper and slotted the ball across goal to Paul Danecki who made no mistake in putting it into the goal. Although more good chances were created Morpeth were unable to add to their goal but solid work from the defensive unit of Rob Machin, Adrian Dye, Tony Cook, Ian Kendall and Evan Mulligan proved too much for the university student to break down.
Morpeth go into the Christmas break on the back of a solid performance and another valuable 3 points.
