Morpeth 4s played well at Middlesbrough, finishing 3rd after our lost today against Stokesley. Final score was 3-2 to Stokesley.
Stokesley took the lead in the top of the table clash with a short corner goal that just evaded the stick of Ben Wardle. However Morpeth's heads didn't drop and
Ian Foster, fresh from the 2s grabbed what seemed like a vital goal at the time.
Before the halftime break, Stokesley scored two quick goals to put Morpeth 3-1 down. At halftime, the team were reminded that they have had a brilliant season, and with 35 minutes left they needed to give there all. That's exactly what they did.
Alan Lasseter quickly scored for Morpeth (who will be next season captain) with a well placed goal. Morpeth had 20 minutes to grab an equaliser.
Stokesley had a strong keeper playing today as he stopped many of the shots by Arran Kirk and Alan Lasseter with them two playing some great short passes. A particular effort from Ian Foster produced a spectacular save from the home keeper.
Morpeth's defence was solid into the second half when Stokesley were on the attack and Morpeth defenders Ben Wardle and Harley Towart dropped back and stopped the attack and were able to get the ball up front to the attackers.
Highlights were great movement by Will in the middle along side Mellor, and good luck to today's captain jack who will be going off to university.
Morpeth then went for an after match meal/ drinks and spirits were very high despite defeat. A third place finish was decided.
MOTM: Ben Wardle
